Poker and Psychology: Are You Patient Enough?
Wait. Halt. Stop for awhile. What do these words have to do with poker and its intricacies of psychology on playing the game?
Well, for one, these words breed on patience. But, don't get us wrong. We don't mean that you sit there and wait for a long time before making a move. That's completely ridiculous.
Rather, we would like you to develop the winner's patience.
Winner's patience, you ask? Is there such a thing? Why, yes!
You see, patience is a good virtue, but you need to know when to apply this for a particular gaming situation because there are times when you have to wait and times when taking action is the best thing you have to do.
Why wait?
If you've been examining the moves of the other players, you may notice that there is a direct and indirect approach to their moves.
When you wait before making your move, you would be able to see what move can put you above the others and help you go towards a glorious win.
In poker, it always pays to wait a while and consider the strategies that you are going to use next while also observing the others you are playing against, especially if you are on a roll on the high-risk tournament games.
Don't be too risky and take action without even thinking if the move would be to your advantage or not.
Yes, it's true that (perhaps) other players may advice you otherwise, and just tell you to go ahead with your gut-feel and take advantage of the situation while it's still hot. However, the only thing that may be burning - if you usually use this form of strategy with your sessions - is your hand, and your possible winnings that would be given to another player.
So, would you like to ask us when should you wait and when should you take action? The answer is, it would depend on three important factors: One, your present gaming situation. Two, your opponent's possible advantage or disadvantage. And three, your strategy that you are going to use.
These three things should be considered whenever you are thinking of waiting or going on with your move.
Do not only rely on what others may tell you to do. Look at the situation entirely, so you can examine all the angles and be able to know if you have to be patient before you make a move or not on the poker grounds.
The attitude of being patient with poker has its own good and bad sides in psychology. Learn how to use it well so you can place the game in your favor.
